If we drink too much, we die - if we don't drink at all, we die, so let's drink. - German proverb
It's easy to get wrapped up in the 'do this' and 'don't do that' of life. One week we are told to drink beer because it lowers bad cholesterol and the next week we are told not to because it may lead to heart disease. What are we to do?
This week's proverb is a fun reminder to simply enjoy life.
An email from Mind Body Kitchen recently highlighted balance and moderation in diet. She said that to deprive ourselves of the things we enjoy can actually be more damaging, in terms of anxiety, than indulging in those things every once in a while.
While this holistic viewpoint doesn't give us permission to guzzle down a 12 pack every week, what it does give is a new perspective. Thoughts are energy, and just like food, can nourish or pollute our body/mind/spirits.
This week, allow yourself to enjoy that glass of beer! Be present in the moment and soak in every last drop until you are finished. Don't let guilt creep in, rather, set clear boundaries beforehand to prevent overindulgence. Then, relax - life's too short to be worried!
