Tallow – A Resourceful Ingredient That’s Amazing for Your Skin!

Tallow is a type of animal fat that is used for making candles, soaps, salves, and cooking oil. And we’re about to show you why YOU need to start using it on your skin!

How did it come to be?

Well, for centuries, people used the resources they had around them to craft something out of everything.

When the yearly cow was butchered, as the saying goes, "everything from the rooter to the tooter" was used! Nothing was wasted. True resourcefulness!

Then, along came palm oil producers and factory farms. After just a few generations in operation, the level of environmental destruction they’ve caused (global warming, water pollution, deforestation, and loss of species) just to grow their profit margin, has caused many conscious people to look elsewhere.

The answer…grass fed tallow

Grass fed tallow is defined as the fat rendered from cows that have been allowed to graze naturally on grasses in a field.

They are never given corn or cow feed. No antibiotics, no steroids, no growth hormones. They live as cows once did (and should).

Where do we get our tallow?

We get our suet (the name for the fat BEFORE it’s rendered into tallow) from a small handful of select, family farms across the Midwest that have committed to raising their cattle exclusively on grass and sunshine.

We take the suet and slowly simmer it in pots on our stove, and progressively filter it until there’s nothing but pure golden tallow.

Why Do we use it in our skincare?

Tallow from grass-fed cattle is loaded with healthy vitamins and antioxidants that naturally replenish the look and feel of your skin.

It absorbs quickly and deeply due to its similarity to human skin oil. It has no beefy smell and it’s shelf-stable for years!

  • Healthy for your skin
  • Hydrates far better than lotion
  • Has no beefy smell

How do We Use it in our skincare?

We use it as a base oil/fat in our soaps and moisturizers. We combine it with organic, fair-trade, unrefined shea butter, coconut oil and essential oils in small batches, right here in our home-based studio.

We mold, cut, stamp and trim each soap we make by hand in true, old school, artisan fashion.

If you’ve never tried tallow-based skincare, you’re in for a real treat. And you can feel good about the positive impact you are having on the environment by saying NO to destructive factory farms and YES to supporting grass fed!

Try our rich lathering soaps and deeply hydrating moisturizers today and feel the tallow difference.
