"Invest in the Children. They'll soon be our leaders". - anonymous quote
There once was a time when the neighbors helped keep an eye on the children. When teachers made a sound recommendation and parents appreciated the advice. When grandparents took the time to teach their grandchildren the skill it took them a lifetime to learn.
This proverb reminds us of the importance of investing in the next generation.
For many, raising children is seen as mostly a responsibility to keep them fed, clothed, sheltered and attending school. While all these things are essential for the well-being of the child, this is not enough. Our brilliant children need more. They need all of us to invest in their development.
In many ways, our children have been set aside. Some schools are more focused on passing tests than teaching how to critically think. Some parents and grandparents value their "me time" more than the spiritual needs and quality time their children/grandchildren yearn for.
This week, let's take time to reflect on how involved WE truly are in the development of our children's character. Let us examine what values we are passing down via our reactions, our speech, and how we choose to spend our free time.
When we invest in our children and grandchildren, we have the power to positively influence how the next generation will lead our communities. Let's be the change we wish to see in the world and help the children be it as well.
