The great are open to shame, the small are open to fear. - Malgasy proverb
Have you ever showed up to an event dressed to the nines, only to find out you were completely and utterly over-dressed for the occasion?
How did you respond? Did you feel out of place or did you embrace your “oddball” status and proceed to have the time of your life?
This week’s proverb challenges us to embrace our “oddball” moments.
Norms are an accepted set of behaviors or beliefs established to maintain order. Following norms keep us safe from shame. None of us wake up in the morning with the desire to be mocked, ridiculed, or misunderstood.
But the truth is, this is exactly what being an “oddball” is all about. It's necessary for us to be open to shame when we step away from accepted norms.
Doing so will give us the confidence we need to usher in new ideas and ways of doing things.
This week, dare to be an “oddball” and embrace your greatness!
