It is a low fire that warms the soup. - African proverb
Passion is an intense emotion. It is the stepping stone to our joy, freedom, and self-empowerment. It creates drive and excitement, and exudes power and assertiveness to others.
Passion can also be an unyielding fireball that, if left unchecked, could easily result in selfishness, lack of reciprocity and disrespect.
This week's reflection is a simple, yet profound reminder how finding balance can promote strong, productive relationships.
Few things can be more comforting on a cold day or when we're feeling under the weather, than a bowl of our favorite soup. It seems the more ingredients we add, the heartier and more nourishing it becomes.
Symbolically, in this reflection, relationships are like soup and our passion is the fire. When too high, we run the risk of being too hot to handle, boiling over, or just plain scorched.
When the fire burns low, more substance can be added at a lower risk. Each stir incorporates the full flavors of each ingredient and blends the pot evenly. The soup takes on a level of spiritual nourishment through the love and tender time taken to create it.
Therefore, a low fire means that we've discovered how to create balance between our passion and another's. We've shifted our values from self to partnership, embracing the substance, diversity and nourishment this bowl of soup has to offer everyone involved.
