Fall seven times, stand up eight. - Japanese proverb
This week’s reflection reminds us to not give up, no matter how many times we fall.
Creating a goal and sticking with it is not easy for anyone. Life naturally comes with distractions and curve-balls that can throw us off course.
Even when we fall off course, we can stay committed to ourselves by exploring how the failure happened and what we can do better next time.
- What led to me falling off course?
- Could I have better prepared to prevent this “fall”?
- Is there a pattern emerging and if so, what is it and why am I allowing it?
- Am I blaming others/something for my fall or am I taking ownership of it?
When we fall off course, we must also remember to be patient with ourselves and express loving, affirming thoughts to encourage ourselves to get back on track.
Life is always changing. Doing our best to achieve our goal will look different on a Monday after a long weekend trip versus a Wednesday after a solid 8 hours of sleep.
The beautiful thing is that the more we challenge ourselves and the more times we fall, the sweeter the reward is when we stand up and try again.
