The Essence and Benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil
Vetiver essential oil has a rich, earthy, musky, resinous aroma that invokes a sense of damp dirt after a fresh rain. It offers a sense of grounding so incredible, it's matched only by myrrh and patchouli. It also offers the exhausted individual the strength to continue with restored vitality.
ESSENCE OF VETIVER ESSENTIAL OIL
Have you ever had "one of those days": your running late for work and get a flat tire in the rain; then, upon making it home, your child bombards you with a forgotten science project that's due tomorrow! Ahhhh!!
No need to yell, the earth has provided you with Vetiver, the ultimate remedy!
Vetiver is restorative and kind-hearted in spirit. It offers relief from the stressors of day-to-day life and encourages patience in times of chaos. It is a grounding oil bringing forth a sense of being reconnected to your roots.
By drawing energy from your crown down to your root chakra, it also provides clarity in thought and the will to see it through.
VETIVER NOMENCLATURE & ORIGINS
Vetiver's scientific name is Vetiveria Zizanoides. It contains the constituents alpha vetivone, benzoic acid, beta vetivone, vetiverol and vetivene.
Vetiver, also known as vetivert and khus khus is from the graminea family and is cultivated commercially in West Africa, Java, Haiti, India, Japan and more.
VETIVER EXTRACTION METHOD
Vetiver is extracted from the dried and soaked roots by steam distillation. The oil is amber to brown in color and thick, almost sticky. Vetiver blends well with many floral and citrus oils, clary sage, grapefruit, may chang, and neroli.
It is considered safe and non-toxic, but should always be patch tested before use.
VETIVER IN HISTORY
Vetiver has been and continues to be used to prevent soil erosion and as a rope-like medium for mat and fan making. In parts of west Africa and India, Vetiver has been used as roof thatch and basket weaving as well as insect repellent.
BENEFITS OF VETIVER ESSENTIAL OIL
Vetiver is called the "oil of tranquility," and has traditionally been used to dispel irritability, anger, hysteria and anxiety.
It has been used to help balance hormones throughout all three stages of a woman's hormonal experience: menstrual, labor and menopausal.
Vetiver has been used for reducing mental exhaustion and restoring clear, undisturbed thought as well as calming entire households via aromatic diffusion.
A study done by Dr Terry Friedmann on children afflicted with ADD and ADHD indicates that inhaling the aroma of vetiver was 100% effective in improving the performance of children affected by the disease due to its extreme tranquilizing properties.
Vetiver is also said to both regenerate healthy tissue and reduce skin discoloration, making it an ideal choice for scars and stretch marks.
Vetiver is said to be anti-inflammatory, analgesic, nervine, an effective insect repellent and a general skin tonic.
