Happiness Requires More Than A Quick Fix of the Mind
Reflection of the Week: Happiness requires something to do, something to love and something to hope for. - Swahili proverb
Has there ever been a time when you felt you had no direction in life? No plans, no goals, no ideas, nothing coming up other than your average, mundane, day-to-day?
How did you feel? Jovial?
Judging from personal experience, I'm going to say you likely felt a little lost, uneasy, unmotivated to do your day-to-day, maybe snippy with loved ones, and dare I say..... a little depressed....
This week's proverb offers a solution to the darker side of emotional life.
Joy comes to us most often while interacting with something, someone or an idea. This is why people held in isolation struggle so much. We are creatures of community.
We need to love and be loved. We need to be able to visualize a positive future. We need to utilize our mental and physical faculties daily to retain a level of usefulness and satisfaction with ourselves. This brings us joy naturally.
This week, let's pay close attention to our emotions. When we feel anything less than happy, can we identify why? Does it appear that a trigger is any of the above mentioned in the proverb? Let us observe, reflect and evolve.
